Google Business Profile for Real Estate Agents in Kenya

A well-maintained Google Business Profile helps a Kenyan real estate agent or property company appear credible when prospects search the brand, a service or a nearby professional. Use this checklist to improve relevance and turn profile visits into qualified conversations.

Understand what a Business Profile can—and cannot—do

The profile can display core information across Google Search and Maps, including contact details, service information, photos, reviews and updates. It supports local discovery; it does not guarantee a top position.

Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence. Complete information helps Google understand the business. Distance depends on the searcher’s context. Prominence can reflect information such as links, reviews and how well known the business is.

1. Use the real business identity

Enter the name used in the real world. Do not add neighbourhoods, services or slogans to the name simply to target keywords. Keep the same name, phone number and website on your profile, website, professional directories and major social pages.

Use an email address on the business domain where possible. Make sure the website’s contact page states the same current details; Social Scale Kenya, for example, keeps its official information on the contact page.

2. Select the most accurate primary category

The primary category should describe the main business, such as estate agency or property management, depending on the actual operation and the categories available. Add relevant secondary categories only when the business genuinely provides those services.

Categories are not a place to list every ambition. A focused profile gives both prospects and search systems clearer context.

3. Configure location and service areas honestly

If customers can visit a staffed office during stated hours, use the accurate address and map position. If the business travels to customers and does not serve them at the address, configure the profile as a service-area business and hide the address where required.

Choose service areas the team can actually support. Listing every county does not make a Nairobi-focused agency more relevant to a distant searcher.

4. Complete the profile information

  • Current main phone number and staffed contact route.
  • Correct website page, ideally with campaign tracking.
  • Normal and special operating hours.
  • Concise business description in natural language.
  • Services such as sales, letting or property management where applicable.
  • Appointment or enquiry links that work well on mobile.

Consistency check: search the business name and compare the profile, website header, contact page, Facebook page and professional listings. Correct old phone numbers and mismatched domains.

5. Add original, useful photos and video

Upload a clear logo, accurate office or service-area context, professional team photographs and original property media. Include images that help a prospect recognise the business and understand its work.

Avoid relying only on listing posters full of tiny text. Use well-lit photography and short video walkthroughs. Keep images current; an active profile should not look abandoned after setup.

6. Build a compliant review process

Ask genuine clients for reviews after a meaningful positive milestone. Give them a direct review link, but do not write the review for them or offer rewards in exchange for a positive rating.

Respond to reviews professionally. Thank positive reviewers without revealing private transaction details. For criticism, acknowledge the concern, state the appropriate next step and move sensitive resolution to a private channel.

Agents can also strengthen professional credibility through accurate regulated identity. Kenya’s Estate Agents Registration Board provides information about registered practice and official directories.

7. Publish useful updates

Use profile posts for current listings, open days, neighbourhood guides, project milestones and useful articles. Each update should have one clear action and link to the most relevant page—not always the homepage.

Listing update

Lead with property type, location and the most important accurate differentiator.

Proof update

Share a dated project milestone, team activity or completed client outcome.

Helpful guide

Answer a local buyer, landlord or tenant question and link to the full article.

Event update

State who the viewing or webinar is for, when it happens and how to register.

8. Link to strong location and service pages

The profile is more useful when the website explains the business in depth. Create substantive pages for actual services and priority locations. A property manager might publish a service page for Nairobi landlords; an agent might build useful neighbourhood guides connected to current listings.

Do not create dozens of nearly identical area pages with only the place name changed. Google’s people-first content guidance encourages material that demonstrates real usefulness and expertise.

9. Track profile performance

Use tagged website links so analytics can distinguish Business Profile visits. Review calls, direction requests, website clicks, messages where enabled and the search themes reported by the profile.

Connect these actions to the lead tracker. A call only becomes meaningful business data when the team records whether it was relevant, qualified and progressed.

A monthly maintenance checklist

  • Confirm hours, phone, website link and service information.
  • Respond to every legitimate review.
  • Add fresh original media.
  • Publish at least one useful update.
  • Check for suggested edits or duplicate profiles.
  • Review performance and lead quality.
  • Update sold, let or unavailable property links.

Frequently asked questions

Is Google Business Profile free?

Creating and managing an eligible Business Profile is free. Agencies may pay a provider for setup, optimisation, photography, content or reporting, but nobody can buy a higher local ranking from Google.

Should every real estate agent create a separate profile?

Eligibility depends on how the agent represents the business, customer contact and Google’s current guidelines. Avoid duplicate or virtual-office profiles created only to occupy more map positions.

How long does local SEO take?

Profile improvements can clarify information quickly, but durable local visibility develops through consistent relevance, reviews, links, website quality and real-world prominence over time.
